Inspiring vs. Requiring
Natural vs. Systematic Try, Try Again by T.H. Palmer 'Tis a lesson you should heed, Try, try again; If at first you don't succeed, Try, try again. Then your courage should appear, For, if you will persevere, You will conquer, never fear. Try, try again.

I love this. We do dates as the motivation. It works for all ages because who wouldn’t appreciate one-on-one time with mom or dad. If they finish a writing book they earn a date with dad. If they finish a math book they earn a date with mom. Our kids are all over the place with pace and lessons so it’s not as easy as saying week one, lesson one, but I love that they only move on when they’re ready and that they are super excited when they finish. We never get “please don’t make me start the next book” but rather, “no, I don’t want a break, I want to start the next book to earn a date.” Yes, things get hard on rough lessons, but it helps that they have an end goal which they adore to which they can look forward.
